SkillDisplay - Gamification at TYPO3 University Day (T3UD18)
Thanks to Christina from SkillDisplay for sharing!
What is gamification, you might ask? It's the process of using games to engage audience by rewarding them for achieving milestones or goals. You’ve probably seen badges or achievements somewhere on the web or in video games.
In this article, we'll discuss how we’ll be adding gamification to the TYPO3 University Days (T3UD18), coming up in Mainz, September 24th to 26th, 2018. We'll also see step-by-step how you can contribute and share ideas on how we plan to keep our users interested and engaged in SkillDisplay.
We Need Your Help!
In September, while the TYPO3 University Days are taking place, a dangerous creature will attack Mainz. We don’t yet know what it will look like and we don’t know how many of them will attack. So we have to be prepared for the worst case! Do you want to help us beat the menace? Read on to get information about tasks you can take on.

First off, SkillDisplay Has Reached a Milestone!
We are pleased to announce that we’ve reached our first milestone - the three SkillPaths for 8 LTS (TCCE, TCCI, TCCD) are now available on the SkillDisplay platform. As this has now been completed, we have plenty of time on our hands to prepare for the attack.
Top Secret Mission
We cannot look into the future, we don’t know how big the magnitude of the attack will be. The monster(s) are not identified yet. Experts are expecting a big disaster, they are warning that the disaster can only be fought, if everyone holds firmly together. With everyone, we mean everyone! We need learners, educators and business persons in order to survive and to help Mainz.
To be well prepared, read the next paragraph: preparation! Even if you are not going to be present in Mainz at the TYPO3 University Days, you can give a hand in the preparation phase.
Preparation: Gaining Your First 100 Provision Points
You need to collect points, not by yourself, but all together, no matter if you’re attending the event or not. The points you collect will unlock new features for the whole event.
The first feature - where you need provision points - to get unlocked is called “Sign me up”. Its purpose is to verify your SkillDisplay account and that you are a real person. If you’re attending the event, come to the SkillDisplay stand, show us your ID and level up to “User Level II” where you can get special rewards. By signing up, you have already got 60 provision points, there are only 40 points left to reach the sign me up feature!
The goal is to unlock “Secret files #3” which needs 1,700 provision points. Also, be well prepared for the bonus quests, which you can reach by following our news on Facebook and Twitter. More information about the attack will be posted from time to time on both channels.
How I Can Help as a Learner
As Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” - and who wouldn’t trust a person whose second name is food? Your challenge is to learn something new.
Up to five teams can participate at the event, each of which is made up of three people. If you are a student or a pupil, between 17 and 24 years old and have two team colleagues, you can apply to become a team, which works against the creature(s) on location. As a plus factor: in the end there is the possibility to do the TYPO3 CMS Certified Editor (TCCE) exam.
How I Can Help as a Business Person
Do you want to support TYPO3 newbies who want to expand their knowledge in TYPO3 during the TYPO3 University Days? You have the possibility to send one of your experts to the University Days to support one of the crisis teams and assess their abilities. We want to provide the best conditions for future partnerships, so we will try to match the teams geographically as closely as possible.
How I Can Help as an Educational Institution
Motivate your students to apply to become a crisis team. By backing them during the event and allowing the team to represent your institution you gain access to the complete Objective Based Learning workshop for the TYPO3 CMS Certified Editor as a ready to use PDF.
