A Recap of Smart Country Convention 2024

TYPO3 at Smart Country Convention

As a CMS with a long history of working with public sector clients from around the world, we were excited to take part in this year’s Smart Country Convention (SCCON) in Berlin. From 15-18 October, TYPO3 took part in the annual conference held in the German capital for three days of meetings with attendees from government agencies, private sector service providers, and a whole range of interested parties.

It was a unique opportunity to communicate TYPO3’s wide range of features that empower public sector organizations to more effectively engage with constituents while operating on a secure content management framework.

Alongside our partners, SUNZINET, rsm integral, and +Pluswerk, who were also present at our booth, the event presented a special opportunity to engage an industry that we have long sought to deepen our relationship with. This blog post will cover some of the highlights from the event as we experienced it, along with the most important aspects of our presence.

What is Smart Country Convention

Smart Country Convention is one of the leading events for the digital state and public services. Held yearly in Berlin, it brings together prominent figures from the public sector and showcases the cutting edge of innovation within the space, from smart cities, to digital governance and digital sovereignty, and sustainability tech.

It features workshops related to best practices in digital governance, along with panel discussions from industry leaders, and a large exhibition area. This year’s discussions included a keynote address from Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, as well as the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and exhibitors included Google, Microsoft, and Amazon among others.

TYPO3 at SCCON24

The TYPO3 team, which featured C-level executives, and members of the communications and marketing teams, along with members from our partner agencies made our presence felt with a large booth featuring a display that showcases some of the latest case studies from partners and public sector customers who use TYPO3 to improve their digital presence. This display offered clear success stories and featured important information on how TYPO3 can serve the public sector.

The TYPO3 booth featured our “Fast, Scalable, Secure” messaging, and our team welcomed interested attendees to engage with us over coffee we provided at the booth. It was a very productive three days of sharing what we do and learning about the needs of different government agencies. Our booth attracted visitors from all sectors of public service, and from across the world.

We would also like to thank our partners for their support and engagement throughout the event. The teams from +Pluswerk, SUNZINET, and rsm integral were always happy to share more information about how their respective agency utilizes TYPO3 to empower digital transformations, and their presence throughout the event was very much appreciated.

Our partners also had the opportunity to give talks on the exhibition's various stages. The talks were recorded and can be watched here:

TYPO3 v13 LTS Launch Party at SCCON!

We had the pleasure of hosting a launch party at SCCON for the release of TYPO3 v13 LTS. Alongside our friends and partners from partner agencies also in attendance, and guests who also took part in the festivities, we shared refreshments and watched the official live stream of the event from Hamburg.

Our team was thrilled about the launch, and it was a great opportunity to show our product’s continued evolution to a wider community. Find out more about what great new features are included in TYPO3 v13 by following the link below.

Top Features in v13

Digital Sovereignty for the Public Sector

Digital sovereignty, the ability of an entity to act independently on all digital matters without undue influence from third parties, is an important benefit of open source technologies like TYPO3. For the public sector, this means achieving complete authority over its digital assets and ecosystem, including with the data it manages and generates (meaning data sovereignty).

TYPO3 Project Ambassador, Mathias Bolt Lesniak was on-hand at the event to discuss these topics and more with attendees, highlighting ways that TYPO3 enables government partners to maintain control over their digital assets, safeguarding them from outside threats.

The Government Site Builder 11

In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, the introduction of the new Government Site Builder, GSB 11, due in 2024 marks a milestone: GSB 11 will run on TYPO3. These transformative changes will take place in Germany and will impact ministries, municipal, and communal authorities. This strategic shift responds to the urgency presented by the impending support expiration for GSB version 10 in 2025, underscoring the critical importance of choosing an open-source solution, setting the stage for a more adaptable, efficient, and secure future.
