Beginners’ sessions on TYPO3 CMS

Thanks to Tim from arndtteunissen GmbH for sharing!

We believe TYPO3 is a great content management system (CMS) able to handle almost any website of any size (especially enterprise websites). That’s why we have been working with it for almost 12 years now and recommend it to our customers without hesitation.

However, compared to other content management systems, the market share of TYPO3 is not as high as it deserves. We often wonder why - one reason might be its steep learning curve. There are other CMS which have much shorter learning curves although they do not offer the flexibility TYPO3 does. To give beginners a hand in learning TYPO3, we - arndtteunissen GmbH - are hosting sessions on getting started with TYPO3.

What will you learn?

We’re planning to hold five sessions for TYPO3 beginners. We’ll start out by showing you how to setup TYPO3 and create your first website with it. Later on, we’ll even show you how to write your own extension for TYPO3.

First session:

  • What is TYPO3 and what is it capable of? - What are TYPO3’s prerequisites?

  • How do I install TYPO3?

  • Where to get help on TYPO3

Second session:

  • What is TypoScript and what is it used for? - How to render content in TYPO3

Third session:

  • What is Fluid and how to use it?

  • How to build your first website with TYPO3 and sitepackage

Fourth session:

  • Commonly used extensions and TYPO3 „Best practices“ - How to contribute to TYPO3

Fifth session:

  • How to write your own extension with Extbase and Fluid

After these talks, you’ll be able to build your own website with TYPO3. You’ll also know how to continue to dive deeper into TYPO3. At the end of each session there will be a Q&A section, because we believe that we can help you with almost every TYPO3 related question.

When and where?

The first session will be held on 25th of April at 6:00pm CET. It takes place at arndtteunissen GmbH in Düsseldorf.

arndtteunissen GmbH
Marc-Chagall-Straße 2

Each session is supposed to last approximately two hours. There will be two breaks in between. All of the sessions are held in German. Of course, we’ll be providing coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
For attending the first four sessions, basic knowledge of HTML and CSS is required. For the fifth session (writing your own TYPO3 extension), you‘ll also need basic knowledge of PHP. After attending the first four talks, you’ll be handed out a participation certificate.

We’re planning to record the sessions and upload them to YouTube. Therefore, we understand your participation as an agreement to be filmed and to appear in the videos.
