Building an Optimized TYPO3 Intranet for a German Pipeline Construction Leader
wendweb GmbH transforms complexity into efficient, automated workflows, enabling quick and easy access to vital information
The PREUSS Group is a leading provider in underground pipeline construction in Germany. With more than 20 years of experience and origins in PREUSS AG, the company leverages a workforce of around 640 employees and a strong foundation to drive growth with modern strategies. The corporate group has a nationwide presence in Germany with 32 locations and is headquartered in Hannover.
PREUSS Service GmbH sought an agency who could help update their intranet in order to streamline internal communication and document management. They sought a user-friendly, modern solution with seamless DocuWare integration. wendweb GmbH was selected for this project based on their proven expertise with TYPO3 CMS and their strong portfolio of successful implementations.
Challenge
PREUSS was operating on an outdated system which hindered their internal communications and overall content management. Their desired solution was to implement a TYPO3 intranet with DocuWare integration. This meant the new system needed to provide a range of capabilities. At its core, it had to deliver a high-performance document search, ensuring quick and easy access to information. In addition, features such as bookmarks and reading lists were necessary to better support overall organization for employees and internal users. The solution would also need to generate payment instruction forms (such as PDFs), streamline workflows via automated processes and imports via TYPO3 commands.
The current intranet solution could not accommodate these requirements. To achieve a high-performing, well-organized content management system, migrating to TYPO3 v12 would be central to realizing the client’s objectives. Drawing on its expertise in high-performance TYPO3 development, wendweb prioritized third-party integration to enhance business-critical processes with tailored TYPO3 solutions.
Work Performed
A preliminary comprehensive analysis was conducted on the existing intranet in place by PREUSS in order to identify pain points and areas for improvement. From there, the wendweb team sourced their internal team and devised a plan to develop a custom TYPO3 theme tailored to PREUSS’s branding and user requirements. A major focal point for this project included tackling custom integrations for seamless document and storage management. DocuWare was integrated into the installation to ensure organization. Once in place, advanced search functionalities would need to be implemented to enhance document retrieval efficiency.
Security and organization were two major pillars of this relaunch. Establishing an authentication system to facilitate secure and effortless user access within the corporate network was achieved through NTLM-based authentications.
After the implementation was in place, the wendweb team performed a round of rigorous testing phases to ensure system stability and proven performance improvements. Through this testing, the team was able to continue optimizing the intranet to reflect a responsive design ensuring accessibility across devices.
Following the testing phase, wendweb conducted training sessions for PREUSS employees to ensure a smooth transition to the new system and provide a clear understanding of its functionalities.
Outcome
The new PREUSS website went live in September 2024. The new website boasts optimized internal processes thanks to the DocuWare integration. The overall user experience was enhanced through thoughtful UX/UI optimizations, while automated processes significantly reduced manual administrative tasks. In addition, a powerful search function was implemented, enabling information to be accessed quickly and efficiently.
PREUSS and wendweb continue their collaboration beyond the go live. wendweb continues to offer ongoing support for any post-deployment issues.
