APCOA is the leading European parking management company specializing in the operation, management, and development of parking facilities. The company provides innovative mobility and digital parking solutions for cities, airports, shopping centers, hospitals, and private clients, focusing on efficiency, sustainability, and customer convenience.
APCOA is structured as a group organization with a strong central backbone and locally empowered operations. The APCOA Group defines and manages key strategic functions at a central level, including brand design, corporate identity, IT systems, digital platforms, and overarching governance standards. This ensures a consistent brand experience, technological alignment, and operational efficiency across all markets.
Overall, APCOA combines centralized strategy and standards with local market knowledge and execution, enabling scalable growth and consistent service quality across Europe.
Challenge
APCOA faced the need to modernize their fragmented, outdated web presence across multiple country websites. The websites reported slow loading times, inconsistent content and lacked mobile optimization, resulting in an overall poor user experience due to their reliance on outdated technology.
APCOA was experiencing limited product and service visibility and hoped to modernize their web presence while strengthening their competitive advantage. To do this, their relaunched website would need to meet current industry standards and create a faster, more intuitive, secure user experience. The relaunch would also need to aim to increase the mobile experience, improve conversion rates and increase parking usage by optimizing the customer journey.
The new platform needed to meet accessibility requirements and improve the workflow for editors working within the backend of TYPO3.
Work Performed
The project involved the implementation of a scalable, multi-tenant platform capable of supporting APCOA’s country websites while maintaining global consistency. The TYPO3 platform was built to support a multilingual setup, with the requirement of each country website to include English, alongside at least one local language. This was achieved by systems in place, ensuring all required translations were properly managed and accurate.
A standardized page architecture was developed by u+i interact, ensuring each country utilized the same core site structure with mandatory templates and pages, while allowing flexibility through optional country-specific content. Key elements were centrally controlled to ensure brand consistency across markets/countries. A centralized media library with shared resources was made available to all tenants (countries), with a shared template library where updates automatically propagated across all country websites.
The improvements to the user experience were implemented from a technical perspective on the frontend side, while considering system integrations and data requirements. In addition, API connections were implemented, accessibility compliance was ensured, and both frontend and backend development was delivered within TYPO3.
This process underwent quality assurance testing, alongside continuous stakeholder management across multiple teams and international markets.
Outcome
The new APCOA web presence reflects a modern, internationally aligned brand with clearly defined audiences and a consistent visual identity across all markets. Since the relaunch, the websites have reported an increase in leads generated for external booking platforms, supporting APCOA’s digital sales channels.
Editors now benefit from a more efficient backend workflow, supported by standardized page architectures, shared media and template libraries, and improved content management processes within TYPO3. Through close technical consultation during the UX design phase, the overall user experience was significantly improved.
The APCOA websites are compliant with WCAG AA 2.2 accessibility standards. The trusted collaboration between APCOA and u+i interact has proven successful and is ongoing.
