Achieving Digital Security with Outstanding Data Protection
The Baden-Württemberg Private Medical Accounting Office (Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle Baden-Württemberg, PVS-BW) is one of thirteen regional accounting offices across Germany operating in the healthcare industry, where it issues invoices and other accounting services for practicing physicians, dentists, and other medical professionals.
The organization was seeking a new content management system in order to meet the demands of its current operations and be able to effectively expand its online presence in line with future growth. For this, they chose TYPO3 Official Partner 3m5. to lead the project and deliver the new website.
CMS Migration to TYPO3
Ultimately, TYPO3’s status as an established content management solution, along with its large developer community, played a key role in it being chosen to support the project. Likewise, the fact that TYPO3 doesn’t charge for licenses meant that the funds that would have otherwise been spent acquiring the license for a proprietary CMS could now be used for customization and further development.
Given the nature of PVS-BW’s industry, where large amounts of sensitive data and personal information are processed regularly, choosing a CMS that could deliver security and data protection was of paramount importance and one of the foremost challenges faced by the team.
Additionally, another challenge faced was the migration of the PVS-BW website from Contao to TYPO3. This process would require shifting all of the organization’s existing digital presence and infrastructure to a new content management solution. Furthermore, it was essential that the new CMS be able to support multisite and e-commerce functions as an online shop was to be created, for training courses offered via the website.
Implementing a Secure Website with TYPO3
3m5 has extensive experience delivering websites that make use of TYPO3’s wide ranging security features, and they also were able to deliver a long-term maintenance strategy to ensure that the risk of data breaches would be minimized.
Likewise, TYPO3’s multisite feature meant that the team was able to factor in future growth to the long-term web development strategy, something that hadn’t previously been possible.

This was done on a separate website with its own shop, which is part of the multisite requirements PVS-BW had. The same content elements can be used across the different pages, which results in valuable synergy effects.
A New Digital Infrastructure
The main outcome of the project was the delivery of a secure website that effectively protects highly sensitive data while providing an enjoyable user experience. 3m5 utilized the numerous features TYPO3 offers, namely in terms of security, and PVS-VW now can operate on a protected digital infrastructure while it expands its operations.
One of the key security improvements is a TYPO3 extension developed by 3m5 specifically for this project, that enables email encryption. This provides for a more holistic security experience for the client, protecting data, and enabling low-risk communications.
Additionally, the organization is already making use of TYPO3’s multisite feature with its academy website, which has so far proved to be a commercial success that has led to new business, and stands as another example of TYPO3’s viability in the healthcare space.
