ion2s is a digital agency specializing in the design and delivery of scalable web platforms, digital experiences, and technically sophisticated online solutions. The company works with organizations that need more than standard websites: future- ready architectures, maintainable editorial workflows, strong integration capabilities, and a clear path for digital growth.
Its own corporate website plays multiple roles at once. It represents the company’s brand, supports communication and lead generation, and provides the flexibility needed for marketing campaigns, landing pages, and future content-driven use cases.
Challenge
Before the project, ion2s operated its website on a modern frontend stack, but without a CMS-driven, production-ready headless architecture behind it. Content updates on the existing site depended heavily on developer involvement, and the setup was not yet positioned as a reusable strategic foundation for future digital use cases.
At the same time, ion2s saw a broader opportunity: the company wanted to validate TYPO3 as the editorial backbone for a modern headless architecture that could serve not only its own website, but also act as a reference model for future client projects. This created a dual challenge. On the one hand, the new solution had to support editorially manageable content, structured SEO data, and campaign-related flexibility.
On the other hand, it had to prove that TYPO3 can function as a robust headless CMS in a production-ready setup, with server-side rendering, structured content delivery, scalable deployment, and a clean separation between backend, frontend, and operations.
The project therefore had to achieve more than a relaunch. It needed to establish a maintainable TYPO3 headless architecture, preserve the existing website scope, and create a reusable technical and conceptual foundation for future headless use cases.
Work Performed
The project involved the design and implementation of a new decoupled, headless web platform based on TYPO3 and Nuxt. The goal of this project was to establish a modern, scalable architecture that separates editorial content management from frontend delivery. Thanks to TYPO3, this provides a stable foundation for future cases.
The true work originated with the architectural design of the headless platform. This included the separation between TYPO3 as the editorial backend and Nuxt as the frontend application. This migration took an existing website and adapted it to a new headless structure.
The backend operated as the central editorial platform, running on TYPO3 version 13.4. Content Blocks served as the structured content model, creating a consistent editorial user experience in the backend. The headless content delivery layer was used as the component to expose this content to the front end. For this project, custom TYPO3 extensions were developed, bridging the gap between Content Blocks implementation and a controlled headless JSON output.
On the frontend, existing Vue components were migrated and adapted to Nuxt, forming the basis of the new application architecture. With the introduction of Nuxt 4 and Nitro, server-side rendering and application capabilities were provided.
SEO-relevant structured content was handled with special attention, ensuring the headless architecture could support the content structures and metadata required for search-engine friendly rendering.
Outcome
The resulting platform provides a foundation for future landing pages, additional editorial capabilities, and further digital use cases. The architecture is designed to allow the editorial backend and frontend application to evolve independently while maintaining a stable interface between content management and content delivery.
In this project, the website also became a strategic internal reference platform: a real-world headless TYPO3 implementation designed not only to solve immediate business needs, but also to validate a reusable architecture for future client projects.
