Introduction

Gastro & Soul GmbH is a leading German system-catering company that operates several well-known brands such as Cafe Del Sol, Vapiano and Bavaria Alm across multiple locations. The company sought to build a high-performing platform for its Cafe Del Sol brand’s website. The platform would rely on powerful API integrations to support communications between various internal systems.

The client selected wendweb to lead the project based on the agency’s reputation and the Gastro & Soul’s trust of their expertise in successfully executing similar projects. TYPO3 was selected as the CMS of choice due to its strong multisite capabilities, its high security standards, along with its flexibility for complex API operations.

Before the relaunch, Cafe Del Sol website editors faced challenges due to the high manual effort in managing locations, prices, and menus on their digital platform. The lack of synchronization between the website and internal management systems disrupted workflows and created a level of inefficiency that needed to be addressed.

A strong API integration was necessary to improve overall efficiency and allow editors to seamlessly update prices and menus on all location websites.

Works Performed

Works centered around improving workflow automation, technical architecture, and third-party system integration. Additionally, design updates, including a new mobile-first UI were key components of the relaunched website interface. These tasks aligned with wendeb’s demonstrated expertise in optimizing business processes, along with the agency’s technical depth, where it excels in delivering third-party integrations and working closely with partners in the system-catering industry. This reflects the agency’s holistic approach to digital projects, incorporating UX/UI, development, API expertise, and web analytics under one roof.

On the technical side, wendweb used TYPO3 v13 for the project. The version’s robust capabilities when supporting enterprise clients was a key factor in its selection. As a first step in the execution phase of the project, wendweb performed a series of tests and bug reports, validating real world load scenarios and complex API queries under v13.

In terms of the former, the new API-integrated site leads to significant time savings through automation, along with delivering a single point of truth for data management. Additionally, the Cafe Del Sol team has seen a series of improvements in key performance metrics. These include:

  • +83.5% ranking keywords in the top 100
  • +16.2% ranking keywords in the top 10
